What: Our third Community of Practice on Homelessness topic is Building Community Trust: Race, Policing and Community Trauma. Join a cross-section of 200+ faith, community-based, education, business and health care leaders for this timely conversation. Speakers for this session include Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Letitia Dzirasa, Baltimore County Chief of Police Melissa Hyatt, CEO of Job Opportunities Task Force Caryn York, Baltimore City Police Commissioner Michael Harrison and President and CEO of Health Care for the Homeless Kevin Lindamood.

  • This session will briefly assess and explain how structural inequities, bias and the lack of procedural justice in policing contribute to individual and community trauma and distrust
  • We'll explore how we can create awareness around procedural justice and tangible tools to address our own biases and promote community healing
  • Panelists will discuss the need to abandon “status quo/business as usual” systems, policies and practices that perpetuate inequities in policing and to work towards community healing through community-based participation
