The Innovation Challenge is Back

Last year, 11 brave individuals shared their innovative ideas with the sharks.

Now, it's your turn.

But first, you might be asking yourself a few questions:

1. Am I ready for the Innovation Challenge?
Do you have an idea that would improve the lives of EVERYONE (staff and clients) here at Health Care for the Homeless? If so, then you're ready to face the sharks.

2. How do I get involved?
Submit your idea here before May 3. The Performance Improvement team will be in touch to help you shark-proof your idea.

3. Can I submit an idea from last year that didn't win?
Yes, but you will be encouraged to think about why it did not win in the past. Is there a way to make it more practical, easier to implement, or more impactful? Was the timing not right and now it is? You are always welcome to reach out to the PI department to discuss your ideas.

4. What if I submit the same idea as someone else?
If more than one person submits the same idea, they will be notified and have the option to work together or work individually to develop and present the idea. If it is a winning idea, the person who presented it best will be the winner.

5. Who can participate?
Innovation Challenge is open to staff members in good standing* who are neither Directors nor Senior Leadership Team members. Competitors may compete alone or in groups of two.

6. What makes a winning idea?
The sharks will judge submissions on three criteria:

Organizational Enthusiasm

What difference will this make for our mission, our clients and our staff?
How does this help drive our strategic initiatives?

Is this logistically possible and sustainable?

This is determined by the staff voting process at In-Service on May 30

7. Who are these sharks you keep talking about?
They make up the panel that will judge the different ideas and determine the winner. The panel is composed of:

  • Executive Team members
  • 3-4 staff members who served on a committee or subcommittee that worked on agency PI initiatives in the 12 months prior to the Innovation Challenge. At least one clinical and non-clinical staff member must be from a site other than 421 Fallsway.

8. What does the winner of the Innovation Challenge get?

  • First place winner gets to work with one of the Senior Leaders on implementing their idea in 2019 as well as an all-expense paid trip to the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Conference in Orlando, Florida in December 2019.
  • Second place winner will have their idea considered for 2019/2020 implementation of their idea.
