Group Opportunities

Want to get involved in our work with the people you know?

Several times a year, we organize volunteer days with schools, organizations and more that want to help support people experiencing homelessness. And for a day, we offer a window into our work, and in turn, volunteers give back to the community—and our neighbors who need it most.

We call this: a day service.

If you're interested in bringing a group to spend a day of service with us, please email Lauren Ojeda

What a day of service looks like...

Flu clinic and coat drive with Constellation and Notre Dame University of Maryland

October 17, 2017—Our partners at Constellation teamed up with nursing students from Notre Dame University of Maryland to host a flu clinic and coat drive. To keep our clients warm and healthy, nursing students administered vaccines alongside our nurses while Constellation volunteers distributed coats that they donated to our clients.

Advocacy day of service with EY

October 6, 2017—Volunteers from EY joined clients and staff for an educational day on advocacy. While here, volunteers took a tour of our clinic and joined the Speakers’ Bureau on an "Injustice walk" around Fallsway. Volunteers also engaged in an advocacy workshop to learn the what, why and how of advocacy as well as current policies and how they can get involved.

Free market day of service with Constellation

April 20, 2017—Constellation Energy transformed our garage into a market full of free goodies for our clients. A group of clients led volunteers in a story-sharing activity and small group discussions. Then the market opened and clients were able to fill bags with new underclothes, hygiene packets, gently used clothing, water and healthy snacks. A wrap-up activity encouraged volunteers to reflect on what they learned and how to use that knowledge moving forward.

Recovery day of service with EY

September 30, 2016—Volunteers from Ernst & Young (EY) spent a day of service at our downtown clinic engaging in conversations around recovery. Through a movie screening on the topic and lunchtime storytelling, EY volunteers, clients in our PHASE 2B addiction support group, PHASE graduates and staff all shared insight about addiction and recovery in their own lives. Volunteers also participated in a training on the overdose-reversal medication Naloxone.

"Anybody can face homelessness. It’s not just the people that you think are poor or rich, it’s everybody. Anything can happen to anybody at any time. I think that’s one of the biggest things I’ve realized working here."
