Max Romano, MD, MPH knows Health Care for the Homeless well. After earning his master's in public health and medical degree at Johns Hopkins University, Max spent three years as a family doctor at Health Care for the Homeless. We are thrilled to welcome him back in this new leadership position.

Meet our new Director of Facilities and Security James Ball! Born in Columbus, Ohio, James comes to Health Care for the Homeless with more than two decades of operations experience in health care settings. James is a Marine veteran who served as a non-commissioned officer, drill instructor, reconnaissance officer and on U.S Embassy Duty. Homelessness is a policy choice—made worse when some of us are denied the very essentials we all need to live, like health care, housing and food.

Pass the Mic features the voices and stories of people with a lived experience of homelessness. In this edition, hear from Mark Council, a member of the Board of Directors of Health Care for the Homeless and chair of the Consumer Relations Committee.

Client Horace Hollins works on his health goals with Registered Nurse Brooke Gonzalez, who is part of our Maryland Primary Care Program (MDPCP) team. MDPCP is an effort to provide highly coordinated primary care and better health outcomes for clients with complex health needs who are enrolled in Medicare or dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid.

More than 11,000 people in Baltimore and Baltimore County turn to Health Care for the Homeless for care each year. This number represents people experiencing homelessness who actively seek care through our fixed-site clinics and mobile clinic. In April, with funding from the Maryland Office of Overdose Response Opioid Restitution Fund, we launched a dedicated street medicine program to bring services directly to encampments and other places people stay.

From its 9,000 square foot warehouse in Baltimore’s Woodberry neighborhood, ShareBaby gets baby essentials – like diapers – into the hands of local families. Health Care for the Homeless kids and parents are among the many beneficiaries.
