Meet our New Director of Compliance
Q&A with Christana Greene
We are excited to welcome Christana Greene as our new Director of Compliance. Bringing five years of compliance experience to the position, Chrissy previously served as Senior Quality and Patient Safety Specialist at GBMC Healthcare, where she developed staff training programs and led accreditation surveys. She holds a B.S. in Health Services Management and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Chrissy is passionate about fostering a safe and patient-centered environment. Get to know Chrissy (and her goldendoodle) below!
What drew you to a career in compliance, and what excites you most about working for Health Care for the Homeless?
I started my career in health care as a medical assistant and eventually became a lead medical assistant. That role gave me firsthand experience with the importance of keeping operations smooth, safe and compliant. Later, I transitioned into the quality and patient safety sector, which allowed me to see compliance from a broader perspective. What I love about compliance is its clarity. Policies provide a clear framework, and when you follow them, you know you’re doing the right thing.
Working for Health Care for the Homeless gives me the opportunity to ensure safety and quality for a population that is often overlooked. Compliance isn’t just about rules; it’s also about protecting patients and building trust. For a community like HCH serves, where health disparities are significant, strong compliance practices can make a real difference in outcomes. That sense of purpose is what drew me here.
How do you define a strong compliance culture, and what role can staff play in creating that culture?
A strong compliance culture is one where policies and standards aren’t just written, they are lived on a daily basis. I think it’s about creating a culture where safety, integrity and accountability are non-negotiable. A strong compliance culture means staff understand the ‘why’ behind the rules, not just the ‘what.’ All staff play a critical role in building that culture. Every interaction, whether it’s following infection control protocols, documenting accurately or reporting concerns, reinforces compliance. When staff feel empowered and supported to speak up, ask questions and follow best practices, compliance becomes second nature.
What’s one lesson or insight from your previous experience that you plan to bring to Health Care for the Homeless?
I’ve learned the value of humble inquiry. I try to ask questions before making assumptions. It builds trust, fosters collaboration and leads to better solutions.
What are some of your priorities for 2026?
I want to focus on building a strong foundation for compliance. I’ll start by reviewing existing policies and procedures to identify any gaps and ensure alignment with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Program and other regulatory standards. Another key goal would be to create a compliance dashboard to track progress and identify trends. I’ll also work on fostering a culture of compliance by making sure staff understand the ‘why’ behind the rules and feel empowered to speak up.
I plan to work closely with Compliance and Quality Specialist Tara Dorsey to reduce the number of repeat findings identified during our quarterly audits. We’re also working to decrease medication administration errors and lower our overall risk of infection across the organization.
Outside work, what helps you recharge?
Spending quality time with family and friends and taking walks with my little goldendoodle, Thea. It’s a great way to clear my mind. I also enjoy relaxing with a good meal and Netflix series after a long week. These activities help me stay balanced and come back to work refreshed.
Give Chrissy a warm welcome to Health Care for the Homeless!
