A big win for Prologue and homeless services in Baltimore County

Just a few weeks ago, we asked you to tell Baltimore County lawmakers to support Prologue, Inc. Now, we’d like to say thank you for stepping up and helping deliver a big win for Prologue and Baltimore County.

Despite pressure from local developers and community members who did not want a homeless outreach facility in downtown Towson, the Baltimore County Council voted unanimously on September 5 to approve the County’s grant to Prologue that will allow them to purchase the property and keep their doors open.

Prologue’s Towson site is an important partner for our Baltimore County clinic, and for more than 20 years, has been providing outreach services to individuals without homes in the region. Trinity Episcopal Church owns the site, and thanks to this government grant, Prologue now plans to buy it. But all that was put on hold when the County Council decided to review the grant. Thanks to our clients, staff, and community members who came out in support of Prologue, we made sure that councilmembers knew the importance of Prologue and voted in support of it.

Baltimore Housing for All members and Health Care for the Homeless clients James Barnes, Bill Price, David Parker and Bonnie Lane attended a County Council hearing along with Director of Government Relations Eric Colchamiro and Client Relations Specialist Vanessa Borotz. Bonnie, a former client of Prologue, joined Chief Health Officer Nilesh Kalyanaraman to testify in support of the County’s proposed grant.

Prologue will have to meet some additional conditions as a result of the hearing—such as security and investing more into upkeep of the building—but both Prologue and the County government are confident that those requests are doable.

One thing is certain: no doors will be closing at Prologue any time soon.
