We’re an agency of movers and shakers. So it comes as no surprise that many staff members are moving into bigger and better roles—right here!

Over the past six weeks alone, EIGHT staff members have moved into new roles in the agency. Some are celebrating departmental moves; others are venturing into new bodies of work entirely. Either way, all are opening up new doors and enriching themselves and their careers along the way. These are exciting times for the agency—and our staff!

We took a minute to ask each of our eight colleagues what they are looking forward to in their new roles. Here’s what they had to say…

Ry Keara Bates—Peer Advocate (August 6, 2018)

Housing is something that many of us take for granted. I know for myself because there was a time in my life that I did not have a place to call “home,” so I understand where our clients are coming from on a personal level. I am most excited about the fact that I get to help clients not only find a place to lay their head, but a place they can call HOME. I am looking forward to using my experiences to encourage and support them in this very important part of their life journey.

Monique Cartier—Payables Clerk (August 6, 2018)

I am very excited to be taking the next step in my accounting career, and I look forward to learning so much more about accounting functions and growing not only my knowledge but myself as a person. Working at Health Care for the Homeless is life-changing when you are around so many compassionate and caring individuals. The environment is nurturing and you feel helped along your path to success; you’re not held down or never given a chance to improve yourself. It is great to be given a chance to better myself even more with this next step in my journey with Health Care for the Homeless!

Dan Hendricks—Health Benefits Manager (August 6)

I am looking forward to taking the benefits foundation we’ve built here at 421 Fallsway to our other clinics so that we can continue to get our clients the benefits they need. I am also looking forward to working with and educating more staff members about benefits that our clients can use to get healthy, and to continue to advocate for the programs and benefits we know our clients deserve.

Kate Leisner—Strategic Plan Project Manager II (July 2, 2018)

As Strategic Plan Project Manager II, I am eager to support big-picture planning and organizational development at a time of significant growth for the agency. We are headed in an exciting direction with the new strategic plan, and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish. I’m honored to be able to play some small part in helping move it forward—and to work with, and learn from, such smart and talented people.

I’ll miss working in Communications (and with my fellow cat-loving peers), but luckily I’ll still get to dabble in “comms” every now and then within the purview of strategic initiatives. The best of both worlds.

Iris Leviner—Director of Pediatric and Family Medicine (August 6, 2018)

I’m looking forward to the Pediatrics Team! They are truly an amazing group. The dedication, joy, caring with which they do their work is really inspiring. I'm really excited to work with them to get creative about how to support the clinic in developing in new ways, while holding on to all the aspects that makes it such a warm, safe, welcoming community. 

I expect to have the chance to develop a whole new set of skills in this new role. I love that I get to keep growing my clinical skills and knowledge, but while at the same time thinking about and shaping the "big picture."  I'm excited to help my team set and reach goals and grow professionally.

Moving into the Communications Manager role, I’m excited to partner with more people across the organization—supporting the work that you as staff make possible day in and day out. I can’t wait to get creative with fellow pun enthusiast Gabbi Thacker, our Communications Specialist. And most importantly, I’m honored to have the chance to tell the story of Health Care for the Homeless through our clients’ stories and voices—taking what I’ve learned from our amazing Development Team and applying those lessons to a wider audience.

Malcolm Williams—Client Relations Coordinator (August 6, 2018)

I am excited about gaining new knowledge on how the organization operates, and, most importantly, working alongside our clients to ensure that their voices are heard, integrated into and drive the work we do here. I am excited about the opportunity to work directly with staff members across all sites. 

I have continued to advance within the organization and I feel this position will provide me with valuable tools needed to affect change within the society we all live in.
