The Unheard Voices

On Saturday, April 9, 4-6 p.m., eight individuals will share their stories of homelessness at The Unheard Voices, a monologue event hosted by Baltimore's Faces of Homelessness Speakers' Bureau and MICA CREATE (Community-Related Experiences in Art Through Engagement). The event aims to connect the community to homelessness and poverty in a meaningful way—and to challenge the entrenched ideas and indifference many community members hold by putting them in touch with those who have experienced homelessness firsthand. The Trans Rights Advocacy Coalition (TRAC) has been the driving force in championing trans rights policy changes in Maryland. Due to stigma and structural discrimination, transgender people—particularly transgender people of color—experience high rates of homelessness. Following the implementation of the Trans Health Equity Act in January, we talked with TRAC leadership about their work and community.
